a travel to Tunisia...

Welcome to my blog of trips: Tunisia circuit of the south + Hammamet. The trip to Tunisia, since it did not convince in the beginning to us, and when we finished the trip enchanted to us! The relation travel-price is very attractive

In order to see Tunisia it is necessary to travel very much, and the best thing is to take a combining. We recommend the one of the South, thus you see the authentic Tunisia, and you see the best thing, the desert (impressive).

The combined one which we took was 3 days in Hammamet (hotel and beach, no more…) and 4 days of route, combined thus: 2 Hammamet nights - 4 nights of route - 1 Hammamet night.

1st and 2nd day:The selected hotel was the Karthago (4 *), we recommend it, near the beach and shops.
Hammamet is a zone done purely for tourists: there are only hotels, beach and stores, so you do not hope to see nothing special there (to recommend something, visit the new medina).

In this combined trip all meals and suppers are included except the 2 meals in Hammamet. We went twice to a species of terrace that there is near the new medina, the "Lella Meriam", and by 10 dirham (6€) we eat 2 pizzas, a Tunisian salad (very good) and two cokes...
In the new medina you have several sites for take the tea with pinions and to smoke shisha while listening music in direct. By the subject to be on the street at night there is no problem, Tunisia is supersurely, and Hammamet but still (since there are police in the entrance of the zone and watching). It is necessary to say that Tunisia is an Arab country but westernized, and they are starting to open to the tourism, so it does not interest much to them to have bad fame.
After two days doing nothing, it starts the strong plate: the route by the south begins. During 4 days we are going to share trip with 30 people of different points from our country and a guide, always the same one, that will try to make a funny trip.

3rd day:

The route begins with a trip of 3 hours in bus until Kairouan, where we visited the Great Mosque and the Mausoleo of the barber. These 2 first visits are ok , but they are not nothing spectacular. In the mausoleo may be you can see a little boy well dressed. They are going to him to make the circuncisión (bufff).
Later on we visit the medina (authentic), and a factory of carpets... worried.

In the evening we arrived at Tozeur, where we visited the museum of arts and traditions, that this just next to the hotel where we stay 1 night, the Hotel Dar Cherait (5 *), that in Spain is not more than 4 *. It’s not so bad, it remembers the Andalusian houses and it has a waiting room next to very pretty reception. There all we did the same, to go as rapidly as possible to the bed by two reasons: one of them, by the fatigue of the trip, and another one because to the following day they raised you to 5 o’clock.

Until here, the trip does not like to as so much, and we though that the trip was not so special, but nothing far from the reality was going to be a great trip......

4th day:

After wake up, we had breakfast and, still at night, we mounted in groups of 5 in all-terrain cars (4x4)... we went away to the desert of the Sahara. From there, we contemplated the dawn in the desert next to a nomadic family whom their huts teach to us and they do bread to us.

Later on, route by the desert, raising and lowering dunes, some of them very great... very amused. The drivers are very funny and they like to do cracy things with the cars, so I assure to you that you will pass it brilliant! Usually we pay some dinars to them after finishing the travel.
We continue the route towards scenes of "star wars" that are in the middle of the desert.

But late we arrived at Chebika (the new one, since previous was devastated in the rain), where we will see an authentic oasis. It’s is impressive, with cataracts. An excursion by foot by the oasis becomes, of one, quite half an hour.

... and later we cross a salt lake (Chott the Djerid), where we stopped in a store where there is in the middle of the highway (at 50º c) quite colorful.

In the afternoon-night, arrival to Douz, where they disguise you of bereber and they take to a "supper spectacle to you"...About this I must to say several things: the spectacle is normal (camels, dumpy dancer dancing the dance of the belly, bereber making tattoos of henna...). After travelling all the day you are tired, and the supper seems too long. It’s quite hot, and the result was: two of our group fell collapsed (and they were two men) by one lipotimia... Imagine that scene, so I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT SUPPER.

5th day:

In the morning we return to wake up too earlier, and we go away towards Douz, that is known like the "door of the desert". We mount to backs of a dromedario and we experienced another one of the unforgettable moments of the trip: to give a stroll by the desert from the Sahara to backs of one... incredible one. At the middle of the route, we stopped and we felt in our feet the tact of the sand. We made photos (like the one of the head of blog), and we return. Without a doubt, the best thing of the trip!

To take advantage of to buy here the famous roses of the desert. It has by all Tunisia, but it is here where they are cheaper. If you haggle well, 8 roses by 1 dirham...

We followed the trip towards Matmata, where we see a typical moon landscape (it looks like the desert of Almeria), and we visited one of the famous troglodytic houses that there are. They are houses excavated on the rock. In the same Matmata there is a hotel (that we visited), where scenes of "star wars" were rolled. The hotel is the Sidi Driss, and still conserves the scenarios.

In the evening we arrived at Sfax, that is the second big city of Tunisia, where we rested in the hotel Abou Nawa Sfax (4*). The hotel is not too bad, although our room was a little disaster (one lamp broken, the door doesn’t opened quite well, the TV was also broken...), but by the other hand there was a swimming pool and good views.

At night we went to take tea with pinions and to smoke shisha with some of the group.

6th day:

Last day of route. We left in the morning towards the Djem, where we visited the famous Roman amphitheatre, one of the best one conserved of the world. It was declared universal patrimony by UNESCO, and got to lodge but of 35,000 spectadores. The amphitheatre is in the same center of the city.

By the environs of the city you have all type of stores where the shoppers will oppress a little to you to buy.
On the noon we arrived at Hammamet, where we were distributed by the hotels. After several days with the group and with the guide, we decided to go to eat fresh fish to the restaurant "La bella Marina". It is a little expensive for the prices that you can found on Tunisia, but you will eat very well. At night, we went again with some of the group to the new medina to drink tea, to smoke shisha and to count the anecdotes of the trip.
7th Day:
As the flight does not leave until afternoon, we took advantage of to go to the beach, to do a massage in the Hotel (cheap and very good) and to rest.
Return.
